Instant grass...

Its been an insanely draining week at work. Not because we've been particularly busy, but because engineering just plain old sucks and really does not stimulate the creative side of my brain. Every break I get, I scour the internet for a new blog or website, to fill my mind with beautiful and creative projects. One of which was this installation for 'Instant Grass' done by Nicholas Christowitz  and Angie Batis.

'I created this space with Angie Batis. We were approached by Instant Grass and asked to design their new Johannesburg Office. The budget was tight and we had to take various specs into consideration. The company's motto is "good behaviour" and we created a street-facing mural with pyramid lights to express this ethos. The team consisted of 6 people at the time, but could increase to as many as 30 on certain days. We had hexagon stools made that could work as a coffee table if placed together and provide enough temporary seating if taken apart. We commissioned a street artist to paint a mural of the employees. We helped design the centre-piece table and the bike chandelier that sits above it. We created a crate/shelf wall that we filled with interesting objects and books, we left half of the crates empty for them to fill as they saw fit' via Nicholas Christowitz's behance profile.

Guess what...

Nothing to get me into a Friday like geometrics and a bit of colour. Not that Friday needs any introduction.

this one time, at bandcamp...

what I am referring to is not an actual band camp kids, but bandcamp; the bestest raddest place to find  super music and listen to their featured 'weeklys'. I only recently stumbled accross the site, but all it has brought to my ears is pure joy. None of this nonsese we play on the radio, but real honest musicians who make equally as honest music.

lets take a beach vacation...

I suppose I'm torturing myself by listening to Beach Vacation, because its making me one to take one. Im absolutely in love with their sound, its beachy and fun and I just want to bop my head around to it all day!

'Heavily influenced by Wild Nothings, Beach Fossils, and Craft Spells, Beach Vacation arose from a small town in Washington. After playing at a high school talent show, the group decided to get together and start a band. Within weeks of forming, they were signed to Dufflecoat Records. Their self released debut EP, "Maritime" was made available for digital download on 4/15/13 via Bandcamp. Physical copies will be available for purchase on the 29th of April, 2013 via Dufflecoat Records' - from their Soundcloud profile

old pine and lakeside love...

Emma Jane Harbour, the brain child behind the blog 'Emmajanenation', also heads up the photography side of things at Lad and Lass. I simply loved these shots of an engagement shoot she did.All that runs through my mind when I see these photos is Ben Howard's 'old pine'...

I cant quite say what will be happening, but to keep everyone in suspense and shake things up a bit i'v decided to update clues. I may have told a few friends what exatly this 'thing' is, but for those who don't know...lets keep it that way...

Lucky schmucky...

Depending on how hungover I am from the night before (refer to 'The Dollfins' post), I would quite like to attend this. I do like me a market on a saturday, and in my hometown nogal!

The Dollfins...

I first heard The Dollfins track 'Bitch' under a year ago and found myself jamming sweet moves to it (I must have looked terrible whilst doing that). A local band hailing from Cape town, their sound is rough, raw and chaotic...all with a bit of order muddled in between.

Lucky for all of us in Joburg, they are performing at Puma Social Club in Braamfontein tomorrow night, which I will definitely be attending. After this week, I most certainly need a bit of chaotic music to get me out of it.

BUT, if you somehow can't manage a simple task such as getting you ass over there i suppose you can click here to download their album for ZERO ronds. How "rad" is that...hah!

I amsterdam...

The I amsterdam campaign was part of a re branding scheme for the city of Amsterdam to promote the city's diverse selection of attractions and landscapes.

'Everything from sun-kissed beaches and undulating dunes, fantastic lakes to countless windmills, historic fishing villages and naturally endless fields of flowers are all on Amsterdam’s doorstep. This is the key message of the new campaign that Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board (ATCB) is aiming at repeat visitors to Amsterdam'.

I suppose I am torturing myself  by looking at these but I just cant help it. I'd give my right arm to experience Amsterdam and the rest of The Netherlands for that matter.

Who knows...I may end up there come mid August...

A weeks worth...

Photographer Peter Menzel took  the series 'What A Week Of Groceries Looks Like Around The World' to illustrate how much food is consumed by different cultural groups and to see the different products the consumers buy. As I looked through the images of the associated cultural groups, I immediately wanted to make a stereotype of that particular culture's eating habits, and in most cases, I was actually right (Germany and their beer and USA with their fast foods).
