Snow day...

Who would have thought just another Tuesday at varsity would turn into a snow day? certainly not me. Yes sure there was talk of it snowing but I lowered my expectations of this coming true due to it never snowing in Joburg. No really, last time it snowed in Joburg was 1981. This fact is true according to e news. Id never seen so many grown ups frolicking around in the snow like they were kids, it truly was something spectacular. As incredible as it was, I still cant seem to get over the fact that its August and it snowed. Either we are seriously being spoilt by a bit of snow or the earth is trying to tell us something. Regardless, it was a great day.

So amidst all the London Olympic madness I thought it would only be appropriate to do a carefully selected mash up of the logo variations and some slick street fashion. I only got the chance to watch the opening ceremony this afternoon and was feeling alive with inspiration. Cool Brittania, you sure do rule the waves...

What Katie Ate is possibly the best foodie photography blog Iv stumbled across. its sweet. its savoury, the girls got the best of both worlds.  Her meals are wholesome and hearty and capture a real sense of comfort food. None of those pea sized meals that you're too darn afraid to eat because they're pretty. Oh to be katy, and eat all of this everyday...

Henry the 1st...

Now I’m not one for "out there" and "statement pieces" but I simply couldn’t resist a bright coral mohair sweater that screamed buy me!!! It first caught my eye in my first week in the Cape at a quaint little store, Henry Garment Archaeology, just opposite the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock. It was way out of my budget and quite frankly ,I didn’t really need another. But something changed when I happened to run into it again. I’m not quite sure what it is, if it was the soft glow, or the bright rich colour, but it seemed to be the first item that caught people’s eye in the store. Now it catches my eye every morning I open my suitcase. Had my budget allowed me, I’d have bought the entire store.

So, my last few days in the Mother City are coming to a close and my departure date looming. its been great Cape Town. ill be back. dont you worry.

The trio of talented musicians sure put just that to good use. This song kinda had me at go. and now i have successfully downloaded most of their songs. oh how i cant resist adding a new band to my playlist

rainy day cuppa..

So, I’m all about a good cup of coffee, who can blame me really. So when I sit down at a cafe and order a cappuccino, and it’s bad, I’m usually like, ok that was a crappy cup of coffee. On the other hand, when I order a cappuccino, and it completely blows me away, that’s all I can seem to speak about. So when traipsing around Kloof Street looking for a coffee shop to house me for the morning (I was temporarily homeless), Arnolds seemed like a pretty good choice. I'd been there before but never had their coffee. What a mistake that was. Now I’m not a connoisseur of fine coffee but I know a good cuppa when I see one and theirs was really great. It didn’t taste like dish water and was A: hot B: strong and C: actually had some flavour!

C(ape) Town...

so the month has finally arrived where i get to spend a whopping 5 weeks in only the best place ever. Cape Town. Not only do i just get to laze around, and do all the touristy stuff...but i get to work alongside Haldane Martin, A bespoke South African furniture designer. Its been a week and already i'v immersed myself in good food, wine and friends. I could get used to this.

oh Tavi...and to think youre only 16
