Last Friday I got a call from Heidi Finestone, director of Capsule projects, Tomorrow's Society and ex VISI magazine stylist. I was invited to take part in designing a clothing bin for the Johannesburg region of the initiative, alongside furniture designer Jared Odell representing Durban. What Tomorrow's society entails is a sustainable fashion-forward initiative sponsored by Jameson Whiskey and Vida e' Cafe. The projects is all about joining creative forces between fashion, photography and cultural movers and shakers. I suppose that's where I come in.
The one off designer clothing bins, which I have been allocated Vide e' Cafe in Greenside and Sandton, will allow consumers to bring in their old clothes for fashion designers to turn into a one of a kind garment.
I willingly accepted the challenged, knowing an opportunity like this doesn't come along everyday. The only problem is I'm still a 7-5 working girl, which means Iv been conceptualising like mad and working on a very tight budget when the sun goes down. Needless to say I am really excited about how the project is coming along.. for those who can't wait, here's a sneak peek...
The opening night and press release is on the 9th of July where the clothing bins will be unveiled.
