Backyard Bill: Hannah Dilworth...

I discovered 'Backyard Bill' through who other than 'Miss Moss' . Diana is a pure genius when it comes to finding beautiful things, so thank you!

Bill is just your average kind of guy who started photographing people in 2008, and from then has really developed an interest in documenting people, their style and their homes. Its hard to pick a favourite from his wide selection of ' subjects' but one of them I would have to say was of that Hannah Dilworth. Probably because of her effortless style, and of course her short hair (bias much)...

Where do you live?
Brooklyn, New York.
Where did you grow up?
Bucks County, PA.
What is your personal soundtrack at the moment?
I’m completely obsessed with Bruce Springsteen, and have been seeing him in concert religiously since I was 15. Besides The Boss, my go-tos are Paul Simon, Sam Cooke, Bob Marley, Tom Pretty, Harry Belafonte, Fleetwood Mac, and Robyn.
Your star sign?
Virgo.
Who is your style icon?
Jean Seberg and my Bubby (grandma). I also just got back from living in Australia and I’m really into the up and coming designers coming out of there, and I love the cool relaxed vibe that the Aussie girls have.
What do you do or what would you like to do when you grow up?
Right now I work as a freelance fashion stylist, which I love. But I have always said that in the future I want to open a great little clothing boutique where I can play good music, my dog Henry can hang, and I can introduce people to new and interesting designers.

These shoes were made for walking..

and boy have I walked in these. So much so that the one sole literally fell away. What puzzles me is that the right shoe is in mint condish. Not a single rip or tear. Somehow I have come to the conclusion that I sleep hop on my left foot with these shoes on.

Perhaps it's time for a new pair...

Postcard from Italia...

My sister recently went over to Italy with her boyfriend and of course my only request was a postcard. How hipster of me right.I eagerly awaited my mail and found it lying in the postbox today. I absolutely love getting and sending mail. Really looking forward to sending all my friends and loved ones something from where I will be in just over a month...

BOS in the Nether regions...

Iv done quite a bit of work for BOS Ice Tea over the the past year, while I was an Intern at Haldane as well as some freelance stuff I did following that. So whenever I see what they're up to and their success I feel somewhat a part of it. Whilst roaming aimlessly around Facebook during my tea break, their page updated that they're launching in The Netherlands...

How cool is that!

Come mid August, this might just be my celebratory drink for touching down in the Nether Regions...

The mind of a child...

A childs imagination can be so wild and creative, more so than an adults. I suppose I found this piece particulary interesting because in less than a month Ill be looking after 3 little boys as an Au pair.

'Jack Beveridge and Joshua lake's 'children's furniture project sees the duo translate drawings of chairs by eight year olds into real pieces of furniture.

'we wanted to explore the untainted imagination of a child. a class of 7-8 year olds designed their vision of a chair, we made them into reality.'

'working with a local primary school, we took an art class and gave the children a simple piece of paper with the words, 'please draw a chair'. with a little encouragement and some coloring in pencils, the children started scribbling away their dream chair! after an hour, we had the most beautiful selection of designs that we couldn't come close to even dreaming of.' - joshua lake- Taken off design boom

Tomorrow's Society..

Last Friday I got a call from Heidi Finestone, director of Capsule projects, Tomorrow's Society and ex VISI magazine stylist. I was invited to take part in designing a clothing bin for the Johannesburg region of the initiative, alongside furniture designer Jared Odell representing Durban. What Tomorrow's society entails is a sustainable fashion-forward initiative sponsored by Jameson Whiskey and Vida e' Cafe. The projects is all about joining creative forces between fashion, photography and cultural movers and shakers. I suppose that's where I come in.

The one off designer clothing bins, which I have been allocated Vide e' Cafe in Greenside and Sandton, will allow consumers to bring in their old clothes for fashion designers to turn into a one of a kind garment.

I willingly accepted the challenged, knowing an opportunity like this doesn't come along everyday. The only problem is I'm still a 7-5 working girl, which means Iv been conceptualising like mad and working on a very tight budget when the sun goes down. Needless to say I am really excited about how the project is coming along.. for those who can't wait, here's a sneak peek...

The opening night and press release is on  the 9th of July where the clothing bins will be unveiled.

Emmajanenation's world...

Emma Jane Harbour, blogger for emmajanenation, has such an eye for creating a beautifull  living space. I regularly visit her blog for a bit of inspiration. She has such great style both in her own dress sense as well as her home.
Her and her husband Dylan recently renovated their new home and has been updating all the finished rooms onto the blog. She recently did a whole post on her living room space and I love how she created a warm wintry environment without using a single dark colour. Now if you knew me, you would know that I am a fan of a neutral pallet...bring on the white, grey and beige!
My ramblings really don't do the photos any justice so without further a due...

Letters to the Netherlands...

A while back I made friends with some really cool dutch guys who were on holiday in Cape Town for the Kite surfing season (refer to the postcards from paradise post). We still keep in quite good contact and I surprised one of them with a handwritten birthday card all the way from sunny South Africa. He was ecstatic at finding a handwritten letter in the post and absolutely loved it. I too enjoyed getting back into a bit of drawing and putting pen to paper. There's just nothing better than the real thing, and who wouldn't want mail in our digital generation...

the B team : The backpack

Because I'm going to be travelling very soon, a backpack is an essential item to stash all your stuff in, and I wont dare be caught in my grade 5 rucksack. No thank you.

So its time for an upgrade, and to blow some cash while I'm at, it and ROWDY's rucksacks was just what I had in mind. The INCA backpack is one of my favourites and I have been writing down a pro's and con's list of the bag. I'm not an impulse buyer at all and really narrow something down. Lets hope ROWDY'S Inca is the winner...

'ROWDY was started by 21 year old  Cape Town based creative, Nicholas Meinert. What began as a playful idea to create a classic leather rucksack, quickly turned into a thriving brand.ROWDY believes in authenticity and the search for all that is real. This is why ROWDY only uses genuine leather and materials, and all the skilled hands that craft each item are well rewarded for their labour. On a design forefront, ROWDY  believes that aesthetic beauty lies in simplicity and quality. We all have something unique about us, that something ROWDY. This  is shown in the design through subtle bursts of colour or bold print interiors.
The brand speaks to inspire individuals to stay classic, stay classy, but most of all to GET ROWDY!'- taken off their website

The B team...

We have this little thing going on at work, where we think ' the B team' is better than the 'A' team. let me explain.

So, the A team is regarded as the best of the best, and then you have to upkeep this standard. Thats alot of pressure for someone to cave in on.

Also, The A team happens to have the worst A words. example, Average, Asshole, Anonymous. you get the idea

BUT (note the use of the B), the B team is simply the BEST. The guys over at work say its got Booze, Bitches and Bimbos, which makes them happy. But it got me thinking to dedicating a weeks theme to ' The B Team, Everything from backpacks and bottles to Braamfontein and beret's. All posts will naturally be kept classy, which means no booze, bitches and bimbos...sorry guys.

H is for...

So this is officially clue #2. And It's probably a dead giveaway with the Image, But things have been finalised so I thought I would start making it slightly more obvious as to where or what I am going to be doing very soon.

I's apparent that I love my blog (so much so that I spend more time here, than actual working). So I thought, why not create another one to document my whole experience as well as the initial process I went through to getting to this point. I'ts also a great way to keep all your freinds and family in the loop (and to make them incredibly green with envy).

I don't want to reveal what this next blogs name is and its URL just yet. But Iv written a few posts already (and set up the entire layout and logo- designer much) because I just can't contain my excitement.

With this said, keep your eyes peeled and ears to the ground for when it officially goes live...

The Talented mister Will himself...

I don't mean to blow my own horn, or in this case my nearest and dearest friend Will's, BUT, when their photographic work is is completely mind blowing, one just can't help but to brag.

I'd done a shoot with him a while back to get his portfolio going, and loved the results (click here for shoot images) . But somehow I missed all of his self portrait shots he took with a self timing Camera. He looks like something straight out of a movie.  Its hard to pick a favourite of them all, but if it was a matter of living or dying, this first one would have to be it.

Talented Mister Will's passion is taking portraits and photography of people, and I think with these behind his name, who could argue.

Will, you're just the best and I Thought I'd let you know...
