(Bean There) done that

I popped in at 44 Stanley’s Bean There coffee shop for a quick yet memorable coffee experience. I myself have never actually been (no pun intended) due to it being tucked snuglyin a hidden corner. Despite this, is, it had affair amount of fellow coffee lovers, two of whom were studying mathematical equations- my bet is wits students.

I managed to page through the new free (I know right!!!) issue of Voila magazine. It really blows me away that sucha high quality magazine is of no charge. I hope it stays that way. Nothings free these days. It’s rather refreshing that this is. Pity the coffee wasn’t, however at 15 randtjies a pop for a bloody good cuppa, I don’t mind forking out the extra change.

Lightbulb idea

I stumbled across the Plumen 001 CFL light bulb and found the interview with the designer and managing director and founder of the company Hulger quite intriguing. Samuel Wilkinson, the designer of the Plumen, pushes the boundary of the idea of a CFL light bulb in terms of its form and creating a more poetic product. Not to mention the fact that they look pretty good as pendant lights too...

where art thou nikon cool pix 12 megapixels?

It’s been a week now that I can’t seem to back track as to where i left this small yet significant thing in my life. On a more positive note, I went away camping this weekend, I know I know a bit of indulgence, but oh my! did it do some good for the soul. As tempted as I was to traipse my laptop and sketch portfolio along, I resisted the urge and was surprisingly pleased with making that decision. Apart from a slight case of sunburn, the weekend was simply fantastic. Nature really can do wonders to the mind and apparently so can jumping off 10 m cliffs into icy cold rock pools. Photographic evidence is lacking due to my dear old camera being tucked away in an unknown location. Pity I couldn’t document the experience. Guess you’ll just have to take my word for it…

Now…back to reality.

p+l...

Pedersen and Lennard have been on the go in the South African design industry  for quite some time now and are renowned for their bucket stool chair, namely one of their products. I found this video of them sharing their experiences within industry. I found mysf wanting more!...there's  non of this designer ego nonsense that they spew out their mouths, the way they describe their products and their use of the word "stuff" is some seriously refreshing "stuff" !.... keeping my eyes peeled for their next great invention.

Its seems I cant load the video but do go check out this link...

the graduate...

Its official, im a graduate. The ceremony went down today and I recieved my national diploma in Industrial design, along with how many other students from the faculty. All in all a great ceremony...not to mention the fantastic food and wine that went down with family at Espresso in Parkhurst following the days events.

A simple white pencil skirt, royal blue blouse with a skinny caramel belt, vintage bag and shoes to match. Red lipstick and nail polish to top the outfit off not with a fizzle, but with a BANG!. Now to do it all again next year for my degree in industrial design. whew!

a little piece of heaven

Although iv had Bon Iver on my playlist for quite some time now, nothing could prepare me for the Bon Iver at AIR Studios (4AD/Jagjaguwar Session). And a bonus that its 24 minutes of pure joy. I quite literally sat in front of the computer screen for the entire thing and never blinked. Not once.

I’m not quite sure who the other artist is, but is most certainly on my "to watch out for" artist list. Their collaboration is so raw and emotional, as are all of Ivers lyrics, this one however had more of an impact than all the rest. Possibly due to the fact that I was entranced for a whole 24 minutes by one entire song.
